Why do some people have no tree on AncestryDNA???

An alarming number of my DNA matches on AncestryDNA have no tree or an unlinked tree on their DNA kit. I am truly baffled by this. I do understand that some people do not yet have a tree to share due to adoption, but I am quite sure this is not the case in the majority of cases.

The process to add your parents and grandparents and any known relatives to your Ancestry family tree is easy and free. You do not need a paid Ancestry subscription to add your family tree, or to link your DNA results to it. I’m not asking you to enter a ton of information, just enough to start seeing how we are connected!

For many people who have taken a DNA test through AncestryDNA, one of the most exciting parts of the experience is discovering new matches with other users who share some portion of their DNA. However, when an AncestryDNA match has no family tree or other information available, it can be incredibly frustrating.

Here are some of the reasons why it's frustrating when an AncestryDNA match has no tree:

Lack of Information

One of the biggest frustrations of having an AncestryDNA match with no tree is the lack of information available. When you receive a DNA match notification, you're often eager to learn more about your potential relative and the shared genetic connection. However, without a family tree or any other identifying information, it's difficult to know where to start.

Missed Opportunities for Research

When an AncestryDNA match has no tree, it can also be a missed opportunity for research. With the right information and context, DNA matches can be incredibly useful for discovering new branches of your family tree, and even finding lost relatives.

However, without any information from the match, it can be difficult to know where to focus your research efforts. This can lead to wasted time and frustration as you try to dig deeper and find more information.

No Confirmation of Relationship

Another frustration of having an AncestryDNA match with no tree is the lack of confirmation regarding the relationship. When someone shares DNA with you, it can be exciting to think that you may have found a long-lost relative or a new branch of your family tree.

However, without a family tree or any other identifying information, it's impossible to confirm the relationship between you and your match. This can be frustrating as you try to determine the connection and build a more complete understanding of your family history.

Conclusion

In conclusion, having an AncestryDNA match with no tree can be incredibly frustrating for a number of reasons. The lack of information can make it difficult to research, learn more about your potential relative, and confirm the relationship between you and your match.

However, it's important to remember that not everyone who takes a DNA test through AncestryDNA will have a family tree or other identifying information available. If you do have a match with no tree, don't give up hope! You can still reach out to the match and ask if they have any additional information, or try to use other research methods to build a more complete understanding of your family history. And don’t forget to check that match again, maybe they will add a tree!
